How to Update Your Business Hours

How to get your hours updated on your website and on Google — which is separate and needs to be done in two places.

There are two places your hours live: your website and your Google Business Profile. They're separate systems. Updating one doesn't update the other. If your hours change, both need to be updated.

Updating hours on your website

Text or call me directly at (516) 749-7910, or email logan@garbackidigital.com. Tell me the new hours and I'll make the change. Turnaround is same or next business day on Standard and Pro. Starter is 2–3 business days.

Be specific: day, open time, close time, and whether it's a permanent change or a temporary seasonal one. If you're adding holiday hours or a one-time closure, let me know the date range.

Example message: "Changing to Mon–Fri 8am–5pm starting June 1st. Closed Sundays now."

That's all it takes. No form, no ticket system.

Updating hours on Google Business Profile

This one you do yourself — and it's worth doing right away when hours change, because Google shows "Closed now" prominently when your profile says you're closed but someone's searching for you.

  1. Open business.google.com or the Google Business Profile app on your phone
  2. Find your profile and click "Edit profile"
  3. Click "Business hours"
  4. Update the hours for each day and save

Changes typically show up in search results within a few hours, sometimes up to a day.

Special hours for holidays and closures

Both your website and GBP support special hours. For the website, just tell me the dates and I'll handle it. For GBP, you can add special hours directly in the profile without changing your regular hours — it's under "Special hours" in the Business hours section.

If you're closed for a week for vacation, a quick "closed August 1–7" message on both your site and GBP prevents customers from showing up or calling repeatedly.

If you're not sure whether your hours are correct

Pull up your site on your phone and check what it says. Then Google your business name and look at the Knowledge Panel that appears on the right side — that's pulling from your GBP. If either one is wrong, get it updated before someone shows up to a closed door.

One of the most common feedback points I hear from businesses: their hours changed months ago but they never updated the website or Google. It costs you credibility — and sometimes a customer.
