Does your website do more than just look nice? I see a lot of beautiful websites that aren't actually helping their owners get more business. They have great pictures, maybe a nice color scheme. But they're missing the point.
Your website needs to do a job. Its main job is to turn visitors into customers. Or at least into leads – people who are interested enough to reach out.
What's Not Working?
Think about it from a customer's point of view. They land on your site looking for a solution to a problem. Do they immediately see that you offer that solution? Is it clear what they should do next? If they have to hunt around for your phone number or figure out what service they need, they're likely to leave.
This is where conversion rates come in. A conversion is basically when someone takes the action you want them to take. For most small businesses, this means calling you, filling out a form, or making a purchase.
Simple Fixes for More Leads
Don't overcomplicate this. Most of the time, small, practical changes make a huge difference.
- **Clear Call to Action (CTA):** What do you want people to do? "Call Now," "Request a Quote," "Shop Now," "Learn More." Make these buttons stand out. Don't bury them. Have them on every page.
- **Benefit-Oriented Headlines:** Instead of "About Us," try "Get Reliable HVAC Service in Hicksville" or "Your Local Choice for Delicious Pizza." Focus on what the customer gains.
- **Easy Contact Info:** Your phone number should be clickable on mobile and visible in the header or footer on every page. Make your contact form simple – ask only for what you absolutely need.
- **Trust Signals:** Include customer testimonials, reviews (if you're handling them well – see our recent newsletter on that!), or logos of reputable partners. These build confidence.
Your website is a sales tool. Make sure it’s equipped to sell for you.
Your Action Item This Week
Look at your website's homepage. Is the most important thing you offer immediately obvious? And is there a clear button telling people exactly what to do next? If not, make that happen this week. Even just changing your main headline and adding a clear button can make a difference.
