Wellness Exams

Annual checkups keep small things from becoming big ones.

A wellness exam is the backbone of good preventive care. Dr. Voss or Dr. Lin does a nose-to-tail physical — listening to the heart, checking teeth and gums, palpating the abdomen, assessing the coat and weight. We look for things that aren't always obvious and talk through what we find in plain language. For adult pets we recommend once a year; seniors get a longer look every six months.

Bring any previous records if you're switching vets — we'll take it from there.
🦷

Dental Care

Cleanings every year keep their teeth healthy and their breath kissable.

Dental disease is the most common health problem in dogs and cats over three — and most owners don't know their pet has it until it's painful. We perform full dental cleanings under anesthesia, with digital X-rays to catch what isn't visible above the gumline. We'll also talk you through home care so you can stay ahead of it between visits.

Most pets need a cleaning once a year. Some breeds, especially small dogs, may need it more often.
💉

Vaccinations

Core and lifestyle vaccines, on a schedule that fits your pet.

We tailor vaccine protocols to your pet's age, lifestyle, and risk profile — not a blanket schedule. Core vaccines for dogs include rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Cats get FVRCP and rabies at a minimum. Lifestyle vaccines (leptospirosis, Lyme, FIV) depend on where your pet goes and what they're exposed to. We'll walk through the reasoning at each visit.

New York requires current rabies vaccination for all dogs and cats.

Sick Visits

Something doesn't seem right. Bring them in.

Your instincts about your pet are usually correct. If something is off — appetite, energy, behavior, stool, gait — we want to hear about it. We hold same-week appointments for concerning symptoms. At the visit, we'll take a full history, do a physical, and order diagnostics if needed. We explain what we find, what it might mean, and what (if anything) you need to do next.

For emergencies after hours, the closest 24-hour emergency clinic is VCA Emergency in Manhasset.
🐕

Senior Pet Care

Dogs and cats over seven get a longer look.

Senior pets have different needs. At Harborlight, pets seven and older get a more comprehensive wellness workup — baseline bloodwork, urinalysis, blood pressure check, and a detailed physical. We track trends over time so we can catch kidney disease, thyroid problems, and early arthritis before they become quality-of-life issues. We also take more time to talk about nutrition, mobility, and how to keep your older pet comfortable.

"Senior" means different things for different breeds and sizes. We'll tell you when it applies to your pet specifically.
🏥

Surgery & Spay/Neuter

Routine and soft-tissue surgeries, done right.

Our surgical suite is fully equipped for routine and soft-tissue procedures. Spay and neuter is the most common surgery we perform — we discuss timing based on breed and size, not just age. We also perform mass removals, wound repairs, laceration closures, and other common procedures. Every surgery includes pre-operative bloodwork, anesthesia monitoring, and recovery care. We call you when they're out.

We'll give you a clear discharge plan and follow-up timeline before you leave.
