Ownership and Control

Do I Own My Domain?

What you own when you work with Garbacki Digital — your domain, your code, what happens if you cancel, and how to take everything with you.

Yes. Your domain is yours.

The domain is registered in your name (or transferred to your name if you already had one). I manage the technical side — renewal, DNS records, pointing to your site — but it belongs to you. If you cancel tomorrow, you walk away with the domain.

What you own

The domain. Registered in your name. You can point it wherever you want at any time.

The code. If you cancel, I'll send you a full export of your site's code within 10 business days. It's written in Next.js. A developer can host it anywhere — Vercel, Netlify, a VPS, wherever you want.

Your content. All the text, photos, and copy on your site belong to you. I don't retain any rights to the work I built for you.

What happens to my site if I cancel?

The site stays live until the end of your current billing period. After that, it goes offline — I stop paying for hosting on your behalf.

Within 10 business days, you'll receive:

  • A ZIP of the full source code
  • Any configuration files needed to deploy it elsewhere
  • The chatbot configuration (if you're on Standard or Pro)

There are no penalty fees. No "you have to pay 6 months to leave." If you're done, you're done.

What about my Google Business Profile?

Your GBP is completely separate from your website and from me. It's a Google product you manage at business.google.com. I don't have access to it (unless you've explicitly shared it with me). Canceling with me has zero effect on your GBP.

What about my domain registrar access?

I'll transfer full registrar access back to you. You'll be able to renew, transfer, and manage DNS records directly. If you need to point the domain to a different host, you can do that from the registrar control panel.

If you want to move to a different developer

The code I deliver works on any standard Node.js host. A competent developer can read it, modify it, and deploy it without issues. I write clean code with no proprietary lock-in — there's no reason to rebuild from scratch when you leave.

If you have questions about what transferring would involve, ask me directly. I'd rather give you a straight answer than have you stay out of confusion about what leaving would cost.

One thing that doesn't carry over

Your monthly plan includes hosting I manage. If you leave, you'll need to set up your own hosting — typically $5–20/month depending on where you go. That's a one-time decision to make when the time comes.

The full ownership and cancellation terms are in the terms of service.
